18k gold vermeil and rhodium are two popular materials used in the production of high-quality necklaces. Both metals are known for their durability, beauty, and resistance to tarnishing, making them ideal for jewelry that is meant to last for a long time. However, these metals still require special care to maintain their shine and luster, and it's important to know how to properly care for your 18k gold vermeil and rhodium necklaces.

What is 18k Gold Vermeil?

The 18k gold plating is vermeil (pronounced ver-may), which is a thicker and more durable form of gold plating than traditional gold plating. Vermeil is made by applying a layer of gold that is at least 2.5 microns thick over the 925 sterling silver core, which means that it is more resistant to wear and tear and will last longer than traditional gold plating.

The technique of vermeil was first developed in the 18th century in France, and it was used to create jewelry for the royal court. Today, 18k gold vermeil necklaces are still popular among jewelers and consumers alike, due to their beauty and affordability.

What is Rhodium?

Rhodium is a precious metal that is part of the platinum group of metals, but it is even more durable and resistant to wear and tear. It is also hypoallergenic, so it's a great option for those with sensitive skin. When paired with the 925 sterling silver core, rhodium provides a strong and durable finish that will hold up well over time

Rhodium was discovered in 1803 by English chemist William Hyde Wollaston, and it was named after the Greek word "rhodon," which means "rose." Today, rhodium is one of the most valuable precious metals in the world, and it is often used in the production of high-end jewelry, including necklaces.
